A new survey from the Pew Research Center in collaboration with SSRS reveals that Americans continue to rate the economy poorly, with 72% of U.S. adults classifying economic conditions as fair or poor. Only about 28% of Americans rate the economy as excellent or good, reflecting widespread dissatisfaction.

The survey, conducted between January 20 and 26, 2026, gathered responses from 8,512 U.S. adults. Notably, Republicans are more optimistic about the economy, with 49% rating it positively. This marks the highest positive response among Republicans since President Donald Trump’s second term began.

The results come from the Pew Research Center’s American Trends Panel (ATP), a nationally representative sample of U.S. adults.
